Overview
Our entire focus is on ensuring the children’s needs are well taken care of and are happy. The children remain at the centre of our social care provision hence ensuring a person centred approach.
We will look at all the opportunities surrounding the children and work with them in ensuring we look at what is best for them and what will make them thrive. Our intention and focus is on ensuring we have a wholesome child, as a wholesome child is a happy confident child. We understand that in some instances, some children may have families who may want to be involved, we are happy to work with all families with a common goal of ensuring the child’s needs are prioritised and enhanced.
Our service provision therefore caters for the following children:
- Learning difficulties with mild to moderate challenging behaviours
- Social and Emotional Difficulties
We offer specific services that offer specialist support for the children such as Personalisation and Mentoring.
Personalisation at LightShine Children’s Home
We operate a complete Person Centred Approach where we identify at assessment level the key aspects that are pertinent to the child and work with them, ensuring they are the lead drivers for their care and support.
We then carry on with the same approach as the child develops and matures carrying through this very important aspect of their well-being. We put the interests and needs of every child at the centre of our care provision.
We ensure personalisation by taking keen interest in the following aspects:
- Ensuring safeguarding at all times
- Ensuring our staff team are fully trained in all mandatory training and all other specific specialist training
Ensuring all staff are supervised by a senior member of staff on a monthly basis - Ensuring the staff have the necessary skills to ensure the children are well taken care of
- Ensuring staff work with the children, identifying their areas of need thus building trust in the children
- Ensuring we have quality audits thus having the ability to measure progress
- Ensuring children take the lead in their support and care provision
- Ensuring we continuously support the children in taking positive steps by calculated risks thus having robust risk assessments
- Ensuring we have effective care plans for all our children that are reviewed regularly with relevant professionals

Mentoring at LightShine Children’s Home
We believe that children will be faced with having to make some life transforming decisions at every stage of their lives in many different aspects. We do not believe in taking away this opportunity from children with learning difficulties because we give them equal value care and support as any ordinary child depending on their level of ability.
At such moments, we will work with the children in walking through for instance a development path, by having a set goal that we work towards. This could range from day care placement, to college placement, to having the ability to work at a level of their ability. We do not believe in writing people off but rather in creating life transforming opportunities. We will therefore create a mentoring package around the child.
We will work with the child in establishing their ambitions, establishing the circle of support and linking this up with activities and community services. We are confident that mentoring our children with learning difficulties helps them build their resilience and contribute towards having fulfilled and happy children.
