How we work
Ready to partner with us

Partnership at LightShine Children's Home

When children are placed in our care, we straight away look at how we can ensure they are well supported in a holistic way. With this, we quickly identify the other agencies we can work with in ensuring their best interest at heart.

We will therefore engage the relevant organisations and the local authority will be aware of all the intentions, plans and outcomes.

Day Centres

We will work with the local authority and private day centres in the area in ensuring the children that have a day centre need and are well catered for. We are also very familiar with local day centres in the area.

Social Achievement

Our children will have access to the facilities that any ordinary child enjoys. We will keep in touch with our local authority and other relevant organisations in ensuring they do not miss out on social outings and other fun engagements.

Children take the lead

The children are at the Center of our service provision and we include them in taking the lead in decisions pertaining to their day to day care and support. They are free to express their wishes, needs and aspirations as well as concerns if need be.

Care Planning

Care planning is a fundamental aspect to the care that the child receives. We therefore set the care plans in place with all relevant professionals after initial assessment when it is agreed that the child will be entrusted in our care. It is our plan that we will provide an environment where the children will thrive. The care plan is therefore a working document that is ready by the time the child moves in with us.

Relationships

During assessments, we will establish the relationships that are key to the lives of the children so that when they move into our care, we will be able to work with them in maintaining any such positive relationships that bring about a positive impact in the child’s overall well-being. We will work closely with other professionals as required to ensure positive outcomes. This could involve working with the police too.

Education

We will ensure the children are able to access an educational service that will help them to get to the level of ability that they can. We know of specialist schools in the area for children with learning difficulties and are confident that this helps them identify their abilities and breaks the barriers of lack of achievement for children with learning difficulties.

Health and well-being

Our children’s health will be assessed regularly through the General Practitioner and we will complete individual health plans in consultation with professionals for those who have specific health needs or concerns. We will encourage our children to do regular exercise and fitness which could be as simple as walking or more depending on the level of ability.

Child Protection

Children in our care will be protected. Whenever we have a concern, we will ensure to make swift contact with relevant agencies and the local authority. We will ensure to follow the guidance of the local authority or safeguarding team every step of the way.

Management

Our staff are very experienced in ensuring positive outcomes in delivering a specialist service to our children. Our staff are very skilled in service provision due to the level of training they undergo. Our staff are conversant with all our policies and procedures and abide by all such to ensure accuracy and best practice.
